This Bible study series reviews five scriptural stories of people who were called out of some particular place or situation by God and into service to Him and to others. This series was originally created to serve the 2014 LCMS Servant Events during their week-long programming.

Sessions include…

  • Session one – The Runaway Son (Luke 15:11-32)
  • Session two – The Rich Young Man (Mark 10:17-31)
  • Session three – The Calling of Levi (Mark 2:13-17)
  • Session four – A Visit to Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42)
  • Session five – The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

Although these stories may be familiar to you, you will be encouraged to look and pray for new insights and new ways of applying the truths contained in these stories to your own life and calling to be God’s servant. As you read and listen, ask yourself: What do I share in common with the people in these stories? How are their calls to serve like mine? How do these stories relate to my participation in the servant event and beyond?

The goal, above all, is that you will come face to face each day in these pages of Scripture with Christ himself who says both as our Savior and Teacher, “But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:43-45)
