Servant Events: Top 10 Ways to Make Bible Study Work

Top 10 Ways to Make Bible Study Work

10. Begin Early – Each part of the study should already be in your head and heart. Know the text and the lesson you want to instill in the learner.

9. Adapt – Many good studies on serving are available. Begin with the study provided each year by LCMS Servant Events. Adapt as necessary for the group you anticipate.

8. Media – Media is a powerful way to reinforce your message. Begin early so you can find video and music to enhance the Bible study.

7. Provide a Booklet- Individual papers get lost. Some students will actually review the studies later, IF they are in a form that is attractive and easy to keep.

6. Ask Open-Ended Questions – Questions should stimulate thought, conversation and further probing.

5. Timing is everything – Many find that the morning works better than late at night. Give margin around this time so you are not rushing off to the next thing. Bible study deserves PRIME time.

4. Get it in Print- Make sure everyone can see the text. If you did not provide it in a journal, have extra Bibles for those who did not bring one.

3. Keep it Simple Silly – One big concept a day is plenty. Understanding and insight is better than volume and breadth.

2. Set Some Ground Rules – How will you encourage everyone to share? Does everyone need to have the text? How will we deal with diversions?

1. Pray – God’s word is a powerful sword. Pray for insights to wield it wisely.
