I was reminded the other day of the darkness we live in and of the light that can shine through that darkness. Because of sin, we can often overwhelm ourselves with darkness. However, I absolutely love the thought that while darkness is all around us, the light that Jesus shines on us is even more powerful then anything.
After contemplating this subject for a while, I started thinking about the phrase “There is a light at the end of the tunnel”. That may be true, but how long is this tunnel? See, we all go through so much on a regular basis that our personal tunnels sometimes get deeper and deeper to the point that we question if there is actually a light waiting at the end! Darkness can sometimes consume us enough that we may start to question our beliefs and choices.
Jesus is the light of the world! He said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness” (John 12:46). He is the light at the end of the tunnel and he will help us through everything as long as we let him. No matter how long our tunnels get, there will always be true light because Jesus is with us. “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light” (Romans 12:13) Jesus’ light shines bigger and brighter then all things and it leads the way for us.
What’s more, we can help shine his light to others. It’s just like lighting candles. Once one is lit, you can use the candle to light others. God wants us to share his light with everyone.
“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ”
(2 Corinthians 4:6).
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
No matter what we go through, we always have Jesus, the Word incarnate, at our side to comfort us and to help us. He came into the darkness of this sin-filled world for us. He brings His eternal light to us and reflects it into the lives of others as we share His Word of love and comfort. God provides for all of us by sending The Light- His son, our Lord Jesus!
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (Ephesians 5:8).
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
(1 John 1:5-10)
