Luke 7:14 – “The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.”
Do you ever think that God can’t help you in your situation? That there are some things not even God can do, no matter how impossible they seem? In his Gospel, Luke writes about a widow’s son dying. This leaves the widow alone and without any means of supporting herself, as women in those times relied on the men for money and food. Jesus saw a funeral procession for this boy while He approached Nain, and immediately felt compassion for the widow. Then He walked up to the coffin and told the boy to get up, and so the boy did. Jesus raised the widow’s son easily and without any effort. He performed the impossible. This shows that for God, all things become possible, no matter how improbable they seem. For Jesus is “the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in [Him], though he die, yet shall live” (John 11:25).
The boy’s death showed the consequence of our sins. Like the boy, we are dead in our sins, and only Jesus can forgive us. In the Bible, five resurrections occur, including Jesus’ own, just proving again and again God’s awesome power. These miracles point toward our Savior, Jesus Christ, His death, and His resurrection, which makes our salvation possible. Nothing is impossible for God, not even raising people from the dead. Whenever you or anyone doubts the power of God, just remember that He died and rose for you, and that no one else could ever do that. God loves everyone, and will never forsake anyone, no matter what the circumstances are. Because of this we should always be grateful to Him.
Prayer: Saving and Loving Father, thank You for Your Son, whom You sent to and for us so our sins may be forgiven and so we can spend eternity with You. Please help me not doubt Your power in any circumstance. Amen.
